How Our Healthy Living Program Aids the Recovery Process
September 21, 2018
People wonder how alcoholics and addicts can get so far lost in their addiction. It is heartbreaking as an outsider to watch helplessly as your loved one completely loses every aspect of themselves as a result of their drinking and using, and it sometimes just doesn’t make sense how they don’t see the truth anymore.
Our Healthy Living Program aims towards bringing the truth back into the lives of recovering alcoholics and addicts. The threefold program combines body, mind, and heart healing to reconnect you or your loved one with who they really are again, bringing their humanity back, and setting them on a path for success in the future.
Addiction and mental health can be very trying and troubling for the loved ones to be a part of, which is why we believe that allowing the individual to take the time to heal themselves through our Healthy Living Program, nestled in 125 acres of rolling Tennessee hills, is the best jumping off point to start this healing of heart, body, and mind.
First of All, the Body
As you well know, the human body can be devastatingly ravaged through the process of addiction. Many people destroy their bodies through the drugs or alcohol they use, and others put themselves in dangerous situations in order to continue using those substances, leading to even more physical harm.
Not to mention, the effects that little food, sleep, and nutrients have on the physical body over time can seem irreversible. However, our Healthy Living Program incorporates a multifaceted approach to physical healing that promotes a higher standard of overall wellbeing.
It starts with the detox phase. Of course, each individual will be different, so depending on which substances, just how much, and for how long you or your loved one has been using will determine the length of stay in detox. But, have no fear. We have around the clock, professional medical staff on hand to ensure that each individual is receiving the highest level of care they need to return to health.
After the individual completes detoxification, they will have access to dozens of amenities and fun activities during their residential stay. Some of the amenities we provide to encourage physical health are:
- A nutritious meal plan and 3 meals a day
- Fitness facility and outdoor exercise
- Horseback Riding
- Ropes Courses
- Fly Fishing
Even just strolling throughout the beautiful campus offers an opportunity to get the body moving while enjoying the serenity of nature and the fresh air.
Next, the Mind
Without a doubt, the mental state of someone living in the thralls of addiction can become plagued by guilt, paranoia, anger, isolation, and depression. Studies have shown that over time, the effects of prolonged substance abuse can dramatically interfere with decision-making processes and relationship centers in the brain.
This is why we believe that healing the mind is just as important as getting the individual physically free from substances. Once addiction has taken hold in the mind, it becomes the overwhelming and all guiding force that determines how the person’s life will be controlled, until they are able to work through the traumas and pain from the past, to heal and recover from their addiction. This process occurs simultaneously with both the physical and heart, or spiritual, growth processes in our Healthy Living Program.
We offer you or your loved one the opportunity to heal through extensively researched therapeutic and psychological modalities that address everything from addiction to mental disorders such as:
- Bipolar Disorder
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Disordered Eating
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Attention-Deficit Disorder and Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder
Our trained staff is comprised of highly trained, experienced, and knowledgeable mental health professionals that work with you or your loved one to create an individualized program that best suits YOUR needs.
Our Healthy Living Program emphasizes proven modalities of therapy such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and family therapy to incorporate a well-rounded approach to mental healing.
Through individual therapy, group therapy, experiential therapy, and adventure therapy, you or your loved one will have every opportunity to regain strength, confidence, and mental health through exploring themselves and the world around them in a sober and compassionate light.
To Top it all Off, the Heart
The heart aspect of recovery, or the spiritual aspect as many people see it, is comprised of learning to see oneself and the world around them in a new light. Through addiction, people can often become completely enveloped in self and selfish needs, forgetting about how they impact themselves and others.
Through healing the heart, people who struggle with addiction and mental disorders are able to learn about their place in the world again and can rediscover what brings them passion, purpose, and peace.
We encourage investigation into spirituality through our Healthy Living Program. By incorporating the beautiful natural scenery that our facility is sprawled across, mixed with a community environment that encourages growth, strength, and courage, and through the 12 steps of recovery, Journey Pure aims to help each individual restore their hearts back into a place of unity with the world around them.
Sobriety isn’t a “one and done” deal, it is a long-term goal that requires in-depth and analysis into behaviors, actions, and intentions, and according to the 12 steps, this is a multifaceted process that required clearing out the past, learning how to reconnect with humanity, and trying to be a little bit better every day. Our Healthy Living Program encourages individuals to show up wherever they are, and try to learn a little bit more about themselves every day.
